Fleetwood Community Center is located in Massie’s Mill, Virginia. From their website, “Our mission is to enhance lives through education and physical activities for our diverse community”. Hard to believe that summer for school folks is over and the new year has begun. Here is a link to the school calendar for the 2022-2023 year and bus information and schedules. The next school board meeting is Thursday, August 11 at 6pm and can be attended in person at the county courthouse or watched on-line.
And apple season is just about upon us. Peaches are in season and available at many orchards including Dickie Brothers, Drumhellers, Fitzgeralds and Saunders Brothers plus more. Some early apples are also available at some orchards.
Government in any community covers many different topics. This section will include information about our county leadership, current projects, budgets, departments and more.
There are 4 public schools, 1 private school, nursery schools and home school groups in Nelson County. Our goal is to help promote educational events as well as after school activities and sporting events.
We are so very thankful for our first responders that include our local police force, state police, rescue squads, fire departments and more. We hope to be a place where we can show appreciation for our first responders as well as events that support them. This will also be a centralized location that can be utilized by first responders to alert our community to emergency situations.
This section is reserved for community centers, community health, local events, and many ways that we can serve each other. Our plan is to post upcoming events and information about each group. There are more than 8 community centers and many community groups that are working to serve our county. With so many things happening, please let us know about your events and how they serve our community.

In June 2000, my children and I moved to Nelson County for work and a life change. While I was born in Kentucky, raised in New Jersey and attended college in Farmville, Virginia, I felt a wonderful sense of community when we arrived in Nelson County. People at church, in the schools and in my neighborhood welcomed us and made us feel like we had been here forever. 22 years later, I have never regretted that move and only wanted to give back to this wonderful community.
